What to wear in Morocco: a practical guide for travellers
Modest, comfortable, and layered covers most of the country most of the year.

Morocco is a Muslim-majority country, and while dress codes aren't legally enforced for tourists, modest clothing (shoulders and knees covered, looser fits rather than tight or very short items) is both culturally respectful and, particularly for women, reduces unwanted attention in medinas.
Layering matters more than any single garment, given how much temperatures swing: hot midday sun in most regions most of the year, cooler mornings and evenings, and genuinely cold desert nights if your route includes the Sahara.
Comfortable, closed walking shoes are worth prioritising over anything else: medina streets are cobbled, uneven, and often sloped, and sandals don't hold up well to a full day of walking on them.
For mosque visits (where open to non-Muslims, such as the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca) and hammams, expect additional specific requirements, covered shoulders and legs at minimum, sometimes a headscarf for women, which we'll flag in advance if your itinerary includes either.
