Every desert route here is private, with your own driver-guide, so the pace follows you rather than a group. Most cross the High Atlas by the Tizi n'Tichka pass, stop at Ait Ben Haddou and the Dades and Todra gorges, and then spend one or two nights in a camp near Merzouga, at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes.
The main choices are the starting city and the length. The route from Marrakech is the most direct, Fez trips come down through the Middle Atlas, and the longer Casablanca itineraries combine the desert with the imperial cities. A second night in the dunes gives you a full day there instead of a single sunset and sunrise.
