5 days in Morocco: what's realistic, and what to build around

Five days is a common length for a first trip squeezed around a work commitment or a longer holiday elsewhere, and it's enough to do one thing well if you don't try to add a second region on top of it.

The most common shape: two to three nights based around Marrakech or Fez, a loop into the Atlas or a short desert push, with enough slack to not spend the whole trip in transit. A four-day desert express from Marrakech or Fez already covers the Tizi n'Tichka pass, Ait Benhaddou, and a night in the dunes; five days just adds a bit of breathing room around it rather than a second stop.

What we'd avoid on five days: Chefchaouen and the north, which is a genuine detour rather than a quick add-on, and trying to pair the coast with the desert in the same trip. Either one is better saved for when you have seven days or more to give it its own time.

If five days turns out to be too short once you start planning, it's usually not a sign to cut corners: it's a sign the trip wants to be seven days instead, which is the next length where a second region starts to fit without feeling forced.
