Day by day
A working draft: the order and pace are ours to adjust once we know what matters most to you.
Marrakech
Arrival at a boutique riad and a private evening walk through the medina as the souks close for the night, past the 77-metre Koutoubia minaret (the architectural model for both Rabat's Hassan Tower and Seville's Giralda) to the Jemaa el-Fna as it fills with food stalls and lamplight.

Boutique riad, Marrakech
Into the Atlas
A morning drive to a converted kasbah in the foothills, the air cooling noticeably as the road climbs, with the afternoon free to walk between walnut terraces in Berber (Amazigh) villages or simply sit with the view.

Kasbah hotel, High Atlas
To the dunes
South over the Tizi n'Tichka, North Africa's highest major pass, via the earthen ksar at Ait Benhaddou: a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1987 and a filming location for Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator, and the Dades and Todra gorges to a private camp at Erg Chebbi, arriving well before sunset turns the dunes rust-red.
About 5.5 hours on the road, roughly 340 km
Private luxury camp, Erg Chebbi
In the dunes
A full rest day, no driving, no fixed schedule, with dinner served under canvas and a sky bright enough with stars to read by, weather permitting.

North to Fez
Through the Middle Atlas cedar forests around Ifrane, built in a deliberately alpine style during the French protectorate, watching for Barbary macaques at the roadside, to Fez, arriving by evening.
About 7-8 hours on the road, roughly 460 km
Boutique riad, Fez
Fez medina
A full private day with a specialist guide through the Chouara tanneries' 11th-century dye pits, the carved-cedar Bou Inania madrasa, Al-Qarawiyyin: a mosque and university founded in 859, older than Oxford by two centuries, and the artisan workshops of Fez el-Bali.

Boutique riad, Fez
Essaouira
A slow day by the Atlantic: the 18th-century ramparts, the port's blue fishing boats, closing with a private rooftop dinner as the afternoon Alizé trade wind drops at dusk.

Boutique riad, Essaouira
