Fez to Rabat
A morning drive west across the Sais plain, with the afternoon free for the whitewashed Kasbah of the Udayas, founded in 1146 as an Almohad military base above the mouth of the Bou Regreg river, and the storks nesting on the walls of the ruined Chellah necropolis, a medieval royal burial ground built over an earlier Roman settlement.

A short drive down the coast, with the Hassan II Mosque in the afternoon. Around 12,500 workers spent six years building it to a design by French architect Michel Pinseau; its 210-metre minaret is the world's second-tallest, and the prayer hall holds 25,000 worshippers with room for 80,000 more on the esplanade outside.
