Fez to Chefchaouen

North into the Rif toward Chefchaouen, founded in 1471, the hills turning greener past the Sais plain, with the afternoon free to walk the blue lanes.

Chefchaouen to Tangier

An early walk through Chefchaouen before the crowds: the blue paint is most often traced to Jewish refugees who settled the Mellah quarter in the 1930s, then on to Tangier by early afternoon.

About 2 hours on the road, roughly 115 km

Tangier

A guided morning through the medina and kasbah, including the old American Legation: the first foreign public property the United States government ever owned abroad. If time allows, a short drive out to Cap Spartel, the headland where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean, and the nearby Caves of Hercules, with the Spanish coast visible across the Strait on a clear day.
