Visiting Morocco from Australia or South Africa: getting the season right

Morocco sits about as far from Australia and South Africa as a trip gets, so the flight itself, usually one or two stops through a Gulf or European hub, is worth planning around rather than rushing through. Building in a slow first day in Marrakech or Fez before the itinerary starts properly makes a real difference after twenty-plus hours in transit.

The bigger planning factor is the reversed calendar. Australia's and South Africa's summer falls during Morocco's cooler months, which works in your favour: a December or January trip lands in the mildest stretch for Marrakech, the coast, and the desert, rather than the harsher summer heat those regions see from June to August.

Because it's a long way to come casually, most travellers from this far tend to combine more of the country into one visit rather than treat it as a short add-on to somewhere else: an imperial cities loop paired with a Sahara crossing, say, rather than a single city stay.
