Morocco works well as a family destination, but the trips that go smoothly are usually the ones paced for the slowest member of the group, not the itinerary that would suit two adults travelling alone. Building in more downtime than feels necessary on paper is the single biggest lever for how the trip actually feels once you're on the road.
Riads with a pool are worth prioritising over ones without, especially in Marrakech and the south: a midday break by the water does more for a family's mood by day three than an extra museum would. A private driver and guide also matters more with children in the group, since it removes the friction of public transport and lets naps and off days happen on your own schedule rather than a bus timetable.
The desert is usually the highlight for kids old enough to remember it: camels and a night under a genuinely dark sky are hard to compete with, but it's also the part of the trip that needs the most buffer. Build in an extra rest day either side of a desert camp rather than driving straight through to the next stop.
Medinas are safe but sensory: narrow lanes, motorbikes, and crowds mean younger children often do better held by the hand or in a carrier than expected to walk the whole way. A shorter, guided medina visit that ends at a café or a rooftop terrace tends to land better than a long, unguided wander.
